Iphone India Tata News: Assemblage of iPhones in India- a move initiated by Tata Group

The first company to make Iphones in India was Tata. In Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the firm has established a facility with a monthly capacity of producing 1 million items. This initiative will go along way in boosting the government’s Make in India initiative since it will offer employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth. The company is renowned for its quality products as well as services and this step will help it have a bigger share of the mobile phone market within India. It has already begun to produce iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 production is imminent.

Tata group is said to be negotiating with apple on manufacturing an iphone in india that would help boost its presence in world’s second largest smartphone market.

According to source familiar with the matter cited by The Economic Times newspaper on Tuesday, Tata Sons Ltd., which is holding company of Indian conglomerate Tata Group, is having advanced discussions with Apple Inc. so as to make iPhone at its plant located at Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

As reported just days before by Economic Times report Tim Cook met Narendra Modi Prime minister of Indian government over expanding his company’s base into county among other reasons.

If successful such deal would represent major breakthrough for Modi administration’s “Make In India” campaign aimed at attracting foreign manufacturers into building plants here.

The latest reports suggest that Foxconn too may soon join hands with Apple after contemplating setting up their own factory where iPhones can be produced inside our country alongside TCL who had earlier announced plans towards making smartphones locally under license from TCL.

Some regulatory challenges are also likely to impede any agreement between Apple and Tata because New Delhi administration wants local firms promoted.

This report comes right after few days when Mr Tim Cook met Modi Prime minister during which time they talked about expanding their businesses across various states including UP where Inc. was planning manufacturing new devices like iPhones, iPads etc., a move aimed at accelerating growth rates within its economy while ensuring that it remains competitive globally.

Should this agreement go through, it would be seen as a big feather in the cap of India’s “Make In India” initiative which specifically seeks to attract foreign businesses establish manufacturing operations here instead their home countries.

It will also be a plus for Tata Group as they try to recapture their top position in Indian corporate world since Mukesh Ambani led by Reliance Industries took over some years ago.

The Indian company already has significant presence in telecom and consumer goods market in the country; therefore, setting up iPhone assembly plant help will enable it earn more margin from its sales within our fast growing industry segment.

Not only Tata but other firms such as Foxconn have also been negotiating with Apple to assemble iPhones in India. This is same case even with Foxconn, which is known worldwide as highest contract manufacturer who might build its own factory on Indian soil someday where Apple’s gadgets are made there.

However, any deal between Apple and Tata will most probably face regulatory hurdles because the government wants to encourage domestic production of goods.

Nonetheless, Tata is not the only Indian organization that had been negotiating with Apple about manufacturing of Iphones here. There are also indications that Foxconn may open shop in India as well, which would be a game changer given that it is the largest contract manufacturer globally.

Nevertheless, a deal between Apple and Tata would probably face regulatory obstacles due to the fact that the Indian authorities are aspiring to support domestic producers.
