India attained its independence on 15th august 1947 but it’s not a result of a day or a night, it takes centuries of struggle, sacrifices and hard work. India’s freedom was earned, not given. Freedom cost us a huge price, the price paid by our national superheroes, our freedom fighters. From peaceful and non-violence protests to armed battles, they played a huge role in releasing the country from British rule.
This article delves into struggles of the top 10 Freedom Fighters of India and how they free the country from so many tortures. Ready to explore about our real superheroes? Let’s begin.
1. THE FATHER OF THE NATION- MAHATMA GANDHI
The first among top 10 national warriors is Mahatma Gandhi. His philosophy of Satyagraha and non-violence had built the foundation of the Indian independence movement. He combined different people from different background together by running relevant campaigns like the Non-Corporation Movement, Quit India Movement and Dandi March.
2. THE FEARLESS REVOLUTIONARY- BHAGAT SINGH
He represented bravery and youth rebellion. He fought till his last breath and gave his life for the country and for us in the Lahore Conspiracy case at a very young age of 23. He gave the slogan “Inquilab Zindabad” which is still spoken in patriotic speeches by leaders. He also threw the bomb in the assembly but not to harm anyone, to draw attention towards Indian freedom.
3. THE MAN WHO LED AN ARMY- SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE
He didn’t settle for peaceful, non-violence approaches and polite protests. He established Indian National Army (INA) and led the whole battle without any fear with bravery. He also gave the line: “Give me blood, and I will give you freedom.”
4. THE IRON MAN- SARDAR VALLABHBHAI PATEL
Rank 4th among top 10 Indian freedom fighters is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was a key figure and played a vital role in liberation of India and he also collaborated closely with Gandhiji. He combined several princely states together after the independence. He prioritized the nation and he was strong and wise for struggles.
5. INDIA’S FIRST PRIME MINISTER- JAWAHARLAL NEHRU
He contributed in various protests and was also repeatedly arrested. Nehru was Gandhiji’s close friend too. He supported advancement and contemporary education. He contributed for our homeland, for our country as the nation’s first prime minister.
6. THE FLAME OF FREEDOM- RANI LAKSHMI BAI
The women who was the native of Jhansi. Rani Lakshmi Bai fought the battle with a great bravery and fearlessly with her infant strapped to her back. She dressed like a man and came to represent courage, particularly for Indian women.
7. THE MAN WHO CHOOSE DEATH OVER ARREST- CHANDRA SHEKHAR AZAD
The 7th among Top 10 Indian Freedom Fighters is Chandra Shekhar Azad Azad had no desire to be caught and arrested. He would always say “I was born to free and will die free. He sacrificed his life in a police encounter and served as a great and memorable inspiration to many young fighters, including Bhagat Singh.
8. THE VOICE OF EQUALITY- DR. B.R AMBEDKAR
He helped many backward classes and fought for them and for their rights. He did not use weapons but led a battle for lower-caste people. He later wrote Indian Constitution, which have equal rights to all and mentioned no discrimination among people. He believed freedom also means social justice.
9. THE FIRST SPARK- MANGAL PANDEY
He was the first superhero to start the rebellion against British rule. He denied to follow unfair rules and regulations and attacked a British official which started the first big conflict. He is still remembered as a first superhero of India’s freedom struggle.
10. THE VOICE OF INDIAN WOMEN- SAROJINI NAIDU
She had become the great inspiration for many women at that time. She encouraged women to join India’s freedom fighter team and to fought boldly. She also joined Gandhiji in Salt March and later joined him in the Quit India Movement. Sarojini Naidu was a motivational poet and also a speaker who encouraged many people with her words.
