Boeing 787 Crashes Minutes After Take off in Ahmedabad with 242 On Board

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was carrying 242 passengers, including nationals from India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada.

An Air India flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday afternoon. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with 242 people on board, struggled to gain altitude and descended around 1:38 PM, erupting into a massive fireball moments later.

The 242 people included 217 adults and 11 children, a source told Reuters. Of them, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian, Air India said.

Air India stated that they were in the process of ascertaining the details and would share further updates. Although exact casualty figures weren’t immediately known .They added that the injured were being taken to the nearest hospitals.

India’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, expressed that he was shocked and devastated to learn about the flight crash in Ahmedabad, adding that authorities were on the highest alert.
